Mixed Media is a messy business. I often find myself elbow deep in old photographs, homemade paper, ribbon and recyclable materials, all in an effort to combine paint with life, life with paint.
My work begins as an abstract exploration guided by color, form and composition. I paint within a series and like to develop a narrative framework from which my subjects emerge. Inspiration comes from unexpected places: childhood memories, local landscapes, herbal remedies, and observations from our social environment, have all worked their way onto my canvas. My intent is to create something accessible to the viewer. Something that pulls at their heartstrings or somehow strikes a cord. A painting that is joyful and fresh, and full of life.
I am a founding member of the 13 member Artists' Atelier in Great Falls, Virginia. This stylistically diverse group of artists maintains a working studio which is open to the public Saturdays 12 to 4, or by chance or appointment.
